The Importance of Scripture in Christian Growth
Bible Text: Matthew 23:37, Isaiah 5:1-2, Ezekiel 36:26, Philippians 1:6, Matthew 4:4 | Speaker: Wilson Blair | Series: Growth | This morning, Wilson talked about the importance of scripture in the growth of the Christian life.
In doing so, he talks about how we upset our heavenly father and how we as the children of God should, out of love for the father, grow and produce fruit.
God desires that we should grow in Him and His righteousness.
Wilson goes further to say that we ought to move beyond the “Sunday School” reading of scripture and view scripture as a brilliant gift from God that we might grow.
He goes on to say that, as Jesus said, we can’t live on bread alone, but on “every word that comes from the mouth of God.” If we stop eating of the bread of life [scripture], we will die [spiritually].
The food God gives us [scripture] is sweet and we ought to “chew” over it to get its nutrients.
